Progetto europeo
ONtheMoSway network
The Project
The overall objective of the project is to promote the use of LNG fuel as a cheap and clean fuel for the shipping industry aiming both to reduce transport costs and meet the tight emission limits, playing an important role in order to shift a large portion of freight off the road.
In the last years LNG as bunker Fuel has become a subject of high interest for various stakeholders. International Maritime Organization IMO restrictions on emissions and price opportunities have established the necessary environment that creates a unique opportunity for increased LNG demand within a new sector.
The strategic objective of ONtheMoSway network project is to face these global challenges, by adding local EU competences and knowledge in line with EU policies concerning the maritime and logistic domains, taking into account stakeholders needs to deliver high quality educational contents at different levels and making full use of mature IT tools. Specific objectives of the projects are:
• the understanding and the appreciation of the pros and cons of LNG’s use as a marine fuel
• developing a new culture in all the actors to understand their role to the safe operation of LNG fuelled ships
• to bridge the different perspective that the crew onboard and at the port have, creating a common understanding
• bridging the gap in the existing training procedures and the different perspectives on the use of LNG for bunkering.
The ONtheMoSway network is not a traditional training activity but on the contrary is a unique action composed by a series of tools that are mixed together in order to achieve the project results with an innovative approach.
